3. Tell him the date of the ride and the departure and destination city. That's important because he probably travels frequently and might have stopovers in other cities. For example he might drive weekly from Frankfurt via Nürnberg to Münich!
4. Note down the outcome of the conversation, to keep an overview over the ride inquiries you have made.
5. If the driver has accepted/confirmed your request, then mark the ride as confirmed and print out the ride details !
If you have luggage to carry along, then you have to inform the driver in advance about how much luggage you have. Otherwise he might not be able to take the luggage along - which would be very bad for you.
If you carry pets along, then you have to get permission from the driver in advance. Some people are allergic to pets like cats and dog. It can be even life threatening for them. So tell him about your pets beforehand and get permission!

Check the meeting point and keep an eye out. The driver is probably late and tries to get to you as soon as possible, but can't call you because he is driving. Your best bet is to wait and send a SMS, letting him know, that you will wait for him until he shows up!
Make sure that you have the correct driver! At popular locations like main train station there might be several drivers and passengers showing up. To avoid mix-ups tell the driver the destination city and the fare he asked you to pay. This way you won't find out in the car after having driven 2 hours that you are going in the wrong direction.
Manners and respect for each other should be self-evident for you and the driver. If you would like to eat in the car, politely ask the driver and accept a no for an answer. You can also eat something during a break.

If you are late, stop somewhere. Send each passenger a SMS to tell them that you are late and how long it wil approx. take you. If you don't stop briefly to send a SMS, the passengers will call you like crazy, while you are driving. Chances are that they are gone, when you arrive. So stop and send a short SMS to each one of them. Then they will wait, even if you are late.
Call the belated passenger on his mobile phone. If the phone is turned off, then wait a little bit longer than the agreed upon waiting time. Keep your eyes pealed - sometimes the passenger is nearby, but his phone is out of battery. Keep your eyes pealed. If you can't find him after the agreed upon waiting time, you have no choice but to leave - that should not happen, if you and your passengers plan well ahead.
Ask the passengers, if they can pay for the ride and if they have the money fitting. Otherwise problems might arise, because of lack of change. Make sure to take some change with you in case a passenger tries to pay with a 50 or 100€ bill!
Reconfirm that the passengers who are about to get into your car are really the ones you are looking for. At popular locations such as main train stations it can happen, that there are several passengers and drivers looking for each other. To avoid mix-ups tell them the destination city you are heading to and ask for their namens and tell them your name. By doing so you avoid that passengers who look for a different driver accidently board your car!
Do
Talk to the passengers when you/they want to have a break, if it's a long distance ride.
Be polite and respect your passengers: Everybody is different but manners and adequate behaviour can be expect of everyone.
Make sure that the passengers take all their belongings along. Sometimes passengers might loose their wallet, phone or keys during the ride in the back of your car. Ask them, if they really have everything.
If on location you noticed that one of your passenger's behaviour is totally out of place, for example because he is drunk or bedraggled, then you do not have to take him along.
If you have caused the accident and if you are to blame for it, then you are liable for the damage of your passengers. However, your passengers are co-insured through your automobile liability insurance.
However, there might be very rare cases in which the costs of the damage exceed the coverage of the insurance. If you want to avoid being made liable, then you can ask your passengers to sign a limitation of liability from the german ADAC.
